What is required to take the course?

The intermediate course uses the foundation course learning as a building block and hence entry requires students to hold Foundation Licence examination passes as a pre-requisite.  Evidence of this is in the form of a pass certificate or an M3/M6 validation document.  These will be required at the commencement of the course and also on the examination night.

What does it consist of?

The course consists of 38 modules requiring approximately 19 hours of study, plus a constructional project that has to be completed in the students own time.  The end product is to presented, to be assessed for terms of functionality and construction quality.  The course project will be the ‘Sudden-2 Receiver’, available from Kanga Products. (

Dennis from Kanga Products has kindly offered course students this kit (including P&P) at £26.00

What are the modules?

The modules cover a wide range of topics, both theory and practical, ranging from solder sills and tool safety to componenets, FR Oscillators and their calibration. Time is also spent understanding Licensing Conditions, the use of multi-meters and making measurements, antennas, feeders and propagation.

Is there a text book?

The course is very well supported by the textbook – ‘Intermediate Licence Book – Building on the Foundation’ by Steve Hartley – G0FUW.  This available from the RSGB bookshop costing £6.99 plus P&P –

How much does the Course cost?

The cost of the course, including examination fee will be £90 based on 4 students attending.  In addition students will need a project kit, hand tools, a soldering iron and stand, safety googles or visor, and a multi meter, while attending the course.
